ABOUT

My name is Jessie Webster, I am a North West based Mixed-media sculpture artist with a BA in Fine Arts from Manchester Metropolitan University. My practice is an exploration into the speculative biology of artificial hybridisation, presented through my experimental use of liquid materials within sculpture.

Throughout my studies it has become clear to me my passion for making art sits within BioArt, the combining of art and sciences. Bioart is an ever more explored area of the arts, as advancing technologies allow to to discover more about the world around us, displaying it through art allows this research to be presented in a more accessable way, allowing the public to connect with these topics in ways traditional scientific research may not allow.

My creative process takes place across the 2D and 3D, however, I have recently found my interest becoming more focused upon sculptural works that position themselves as Anti-form. Inspired heavily by the work of Eva Hesse, I began experiments with liquid materials such as latex, paint and glue.
Pouring, Dripping, Dipping, Puddling and Pooling.

Allowing the materials to be the creators of their forms, allowing chance to play a role in final outcomes allows me to become more fluid within my practice. Abstracting forms into the unfamiliar, with hinting references to the beings of our planet.
